Sugars That Heal - "Even tiny amounts of these sugars—or lack of them—have profound effects. In test after test conducted at leading institutes around the world, these saccharides have been shown to lower cholesterol, increase lean muscle mass, decrease body fat, accelerate would healing, ease allergy symptoms, and allay autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, psoriasis, and diabetes. Bacterial infections, including the recurrent ear infections that plague toddlers, often respond remarkably to saccharides, as do many viruses-from the common cold to the flu, from herpes to HIV. The debilitating symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and Gulf War syndrome frequently abate after adding saccharides. And, for cancer patients, saccharides mitigate the toxic effects of radiation and chemotherapy-while augmenting their cancer-killing effects, resulting in prolonged survival and improved quality of life."

Miracle Sugars
- "The New Class of Missing Nutrients"
On page four of this book, copyrighted in 2002, the author, Rita Elkins, M.H., included a special preface entitled, "
Author's Note: Defending Against Bioterrorism." After discussing that antibiotics "alone should not be relied on as the body's only defense against bacteria infections" and that they "should not be used for viral infections at all unless a secondary bacterial infection sets in," she commented about the overuse of antibiotics which has "created a whole new class of super bugs that do not respond to antibiotic treatment."

After acknowledging that there are "scores of natural products and supplements that claim to boost and modulate the immune system and many of them do just that," she stated that "Glyconutritionals (biologically active sugars) are superb immune enhancers which can prepare and optimize our defense against serious infections of all kinds. They should be an integral part of anyone's immune fortification program." Her concluding remarks in the preface related to glyconutritionals and bioterrorism are so gripping that we would do an injustice by quoting them here without your being able to read the rest of this relatively short paperback. Compelling indeed!
